The Best One Yet

by Show of Hands

/

about

Steve Knightley, Phil Beer, Miranda Sykes and Cormac Byrne have reunited as Show of Hands to release a post-lockdown anthem that celebrates everything we love and have missed about the joy of summer festivals. They are joined by Track Dogs, Edgelarks and Banter for the up-tempo track, which is set to become the anthem of the year.

The rousing, festival song features an unforgettable melody and heartwarming lyrics that will resonate with all who have found the last year challenging, to say the least. A song to reflect and remember the good times lost – and the good times to come. It is also hugely poignant for the bands that feature, who are themselves celebrating the music industry coming back to life.

lyrics

Come on baby wake up don’t think twice
The cars all packed and the beer’s on ice
The sun’s coming up at the end of the street
I know perfect place where we all can meet

Ahead we’ve still got a four hour drive
’Til I see those hills I won’t be alive
Come on now we’ve gotta take this chance
Or we’ll forget how to kiss how to sing and dance
Doctor says just do no harm
But we need these days like a shot in the arm
And if the roadmaps clear

I gotta feeling this year
Is gonna be the best one yet
So let’s go
Get out in the green fields
To let the music flow

Laughter drifting over new mown grass
It feels so good to be here at last
We’re staring up at the clear blue sky
Won’t you lay right down let the time slip by
Hopes and dreams were broken and crushed
Now they rise in the air with the lights and the flares
Like diesel and dust
Oh in science we’ll trust

I gotta feeling this year
Is gonna be the best one yet
So let’s go
Get out in the green fields
To let the music flow

Sun goes down and the lights are fading fast
Drinking in the sweet night air honey all I ask
As you raise your glass

I gotta feeling this year
Is gonna be the best one yet
So let’s go
Get out in the green fields
To let the music flow
